How to Maximize Your Private Soccer Coaching Sessions: Tips and Tricks

As someone who has both coached and taken private soccer lessons, I can assure you that private lessons are well worth the cost—if you do them right. Here are my top tips for making the most of your private soccer coaching sessions.

Find the Right Coach

Finding the right coach for you can be tricky. However, Athletes Untapped makes it a smooth and easy experience. They allow you to search through a carefully selected list of qualified coaches. Be sure to check their coaching certifications, playing experience, and coaching experience to ensure they are right for you.

Know What You Want

Taking a private lesson just to take a private lesson is not a good idea. Before you schedule a session, take a moment to assess your current level. Think about what you could have done better in your last game. This self-assessment will help you focus on specific areas that need improvement.

Communicate with the Coach Beforehand

From a coach’s perspective, communication is key. Tell your coach your goals, weaknesses, and any other relevant information before the session. This helps them create a personalized lesson plan. Clients who know what they want and are motivated to improve are a pleasure to coach.

Pay Attention

This should go without saying, but please pay attention to your coach during a private lesson. Coaches from Athletes Untapped have collegiate or professional backgrounds, and their time is valuable. Not paying attention wastes both your money and time that could be spent learning from a master of the game.

Follow-Up

Once your session is over, the learning doesn’t stop there. Ask your coach how the session went. What went well, and what could you improve on? Is there anything you can do in the meantime to get better? These questions will help you continue to improve between sessions.

Get Homework

Before your next session, don’t just sit around doing nothing. Ask your coach for exercises you can do on your own to get better. During my soccer career, I spent countless hours on solo training, which helped me improve significantly. Sharing these drills and my love for the process is fulfilling and helpful to clients.

By following these tips, you can make the most of your private soccer coaching sessions. For the best coaches, check out Athletes Untapped and keep this list in mind before your next lesson!
